Metallography

At MTA we specialize in sample preparation for metallographical investigations of materials that are used in a wide variety of applications. Our years of experience, combined with a well-equipped laboratory allows us to prepare metallographic samples of metals, alloys, polymers, composite materials, ceramics, coatings and complex systems. We are well equipped to prepare a range of specimens for metallography including, for example, weldments in large components as well as complex, dissimilar materials.

Metallography is the study of the physical structure of materials. We can determine the size, shape, distribution and amount of constituents present in a material. For example the grain size and grain structure as well as the presence or absence of intermetallic partcles, inclusions, voids and other defects, can be determined for a metallic material.

A host of information about a product or part can be found through this method of investigation. If you are interested in finding out more about the material properties of your prototype, completed or unexpectedly failed product this is an excellent avenue of investigation. This information is pivotal to deciding on the best material selection, material conditioning route and manufacturing processes for your product.
